Rosalind Chao (/ˈrɒzəlɪnd ˈtʃaʊ/;[1] simplified Chinese: 赵家玲; traditional Chinese: 趙家玲; pinyin: Zhào Jiālíng; born Chao Jyalin September 23, 1957, Anaheim, California) played the part of Soon-Lee Klinger in the final two episodes of the CBS-TV series M*A*S*H, the episode titled "As Time Goes By" and "Goodbye, Farewell and Amen". She is best known for the role on M*A*S*H and then AfterMASH as well has her appearances as "Keiko O'Brien" in the series' Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. She appeared as the second May Ying (previously played by Joan Chen in "Golden Triangle (Part II)") in the episode "Heart Of Night" of the series Miami Vice.Chao Jyalin
Early life
Born in Anaheim, California as a second-generation Chinese Californian, [2] Chao's parents ran a successful Chinese American pancake restaurant, Chao's, across the street from Disneyland, and employed her there from an early age. After moving from Garden Grove, CA to nearby Villa Park, CA, Chao was enrolled at Marywood, an all-girl school where she was the only non-white student.
For some time, Chao worked at Disneyland as an international tour guide.[3] It was there she met Simon Templeman; the couple would eventually wed and have their reception at the Disneyland Hotel.[3]
Career
Rosalind, who's a 1978 graduate of Pomona College in Claremont, CA [4], began her career on television (where most of her roles would be performed) in a 1970 episode of Here's Lucy (with James Hong). Some of her many TV appearances include Kung Fu (with Keye Luke), Kojak (with Stephen McHattie and Pepe Serna), Lobo (with James Saito), Diff'rent Strokes (as teacher Miss Chung), Max Headroom (with Matt Frewer and Charles Rocket), Beauty and the Beast (with Ron Perlman), The West Wing (with Oliver Platt), Monk (with David Rasche), Six Feet Under (with Richard Jenkins), CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (with Paul Guilfoyle), The Event (with Lisa Vidal), and her most recent TV appearance, in a 2011 episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent (with Vincent D'Onofrio and Jay O. Sanders).
Chao's movie career began with 1980's The Big Brawl, later appearing in Slam Dance, White Ghost, Denial, Thousand Pieces of Gold, Love Affair, The Man from Elysian Fields, and her most recent movie appearance, in 2005's Just Like Heaven.
Personal Life
Chao married well known voice actor Simon Templeman ("Kain of the Legacy of Kain video game series) in 1989, they have two children; son Roland and daughter Isabella.
