Private LaRoche was a character who appeared in the Season 11 episode of the CBS-TV series M*A*S*H titled "Trick or Treatment". The part LaRoche was played by future Cheers TV series co-star and character actor George Wendt.
Winchester, wanting nothing to do with any Halloween celebration at Rosie's bar which the other members of the 4077th were planning to attend, has volunteered to be on duty in Post Op. He ends up with first patient almost immediately, LaRoche, which Charles sarcastically refferred to as "Private Mosconi" who foolheartedly stuck a pool ball in his mouth as a gag, but now can't get it back out. Winchester examines him, torturing the poor guy pretending not to even notice the ball jutting out of his jaw.
After scaring "Mosconi" by telling him that he may have to pull several teeth in order to extract the ball out of his mouth, Charles finally relieves the Marine's agony by extracting the protruding "8" ball.
