Corey, while recovering in post-op tells Margaret how he came to be wounded. He had been sitting in a foxhole when nothing was happening and so he started reading an enemy propaganda leaflet when suddenly he saw a Chinese soldier standing over him. The enemy soldier was the same age as him and seemed almost as surprised to see him. They both fired together and Corey got hit in the shoulder and knocked flat. Later, the medic told Corey that he had also hit the enemy soldier. Margaret, who has been listening sympathetically, asks if there is anything she can do for him and Corey asks if she can write a letter to his mother for him. Margaret starts the letter "Dear Mother" but Corey stops her. It should be "Dear Mom". "She hates when you call her Mother," he tells Margaret.
