Cordon is recovering well in post-op after being injured by a mine explosion. When B.J. tells him the good news that he will soon be fit enough to ship out to Tokyo to complete his recovery, Cordon ruefully reflects on the incident that injured him. He tells B.J. he thought he had a good assignment clearing mines--away from the front lines and with no one shooting at him--all until he made a bad mistake. When laying mines, it is a common practice to lay mines in a pattern to make it easier to pick them up again. However a few mines are always booby-trapped to prevent the enemy snipping the wires and disarming the mines. He had forgotten about that and had triggered one of them.
The credits only list the Cordon's rank and last name. However he refers to himself as "Herb" in the dialogue.
