About Burnham and new MASH unit plansEdit
In the Rumor at the Top episode, when Major Burnham arrives on a fact finding tour on behalf of Army HQ, the whole camp, most notably, the officers-- are all concerned that what Burnham, who is there on behalf of a General Torgeson, an old nemisis of Potter's, finds, will be used to ship members of the 4077th into a new unit that General Torgerson plans to start closer to the front.
All the officers, and Klinger, begin to feign incompetence, hoping that they would not be one of the people selected to join the new MASH unit. Finally, just as Burnum has had enough, as he readies to leave camp, wounded arrive, and he sees the 4077th snap into action. He hangs back, watching, and realizes he's been duped!
Later, in the Mess Tent, as everyone begins to worry about what's going to happen now that Burnum has seen how the 4077th really operates. Burnham and Potter join them, and Burnham reveals what he's here for: to gather information about creating a new MASH.
It turns out that Burnham's fact finding tour of the 4077th was misinterpreted -- he's not there to pull someone out of the 4077th--he's simply there to learn how they operate at such a peak efficiency rate, so they could copy it in hopes to create another MASH as effective as the 4077th! Everyone is relieved when Burnum admits, "Breaking up the 4077th would be like splitting up the Yankees!"
