Mulligan, who has completed his tour in Korea, is about to be rotated stateside and seeks out Radar to ask him to look after Mai Ping. All Mulligan wants is for Radar to be her friend. When Radar agrees, Mulligan and takes him to meet Mai Ping at Rosie's Bar before he departs for Seoul. Radar who is not sure what he got himself into at first is even more shocked to learn that Mai Ping has a baby, Lee Chin Mulligan.

Radar soon warms to the idea of being a sort of "foster uncle" to the baby, even sharing his teddy bear with him. However, not long afterwards, Mulligan returns to Mai Ping's hut. He tells Mai Ping that he leave Mai Ping behind and so he wants to take her and her baby with him back to the United States. Mai Ping happily agrees. Radar, now feeling unwanted, nervously takes his leave, leaving his teddy bear behind with the baby. However just before Radar reaches the door, Mai Ping retrieves the teddy bear and returns it to Radar with a smile of thanks.
