About the GeneralEdit

General “Iron Guts” Kelly, who's one of the top generals in the U.S. Army, is also highly decorated. having been a hero in both World wars. When Col. Blake learns of the general's planned visit to the 4077th. he becomes quite nervous and tries chewing gum to cover the alcohol on his breath, but ends up giving the General a gummy salute when he and his aide, Colonel Wortman (Keene Curtis), arrive.

After taking a brief tour of camp, the mess tent, Post Op, Triage, where the doctors, namely Hawkeye and Trapper, are in surgery, he is highly impressed; later on, after talking with his aide Colonel Wortman, they plan to put off any further touring of the camp until the next day as he, after meeting all of the medical staff, is quite smitten with Hotlips, who seems just as giddy in meeting the famous general.

When he has what is called in medical terms "a myocardial infarction", meaning in layman's terms, a heart attack, in Margaret's tent while having a little nightcap with her, she screams, and then rushes to the Swamp to alert Hawk and Trapper; when they inspect his body to see for any vital signs, he's dead -- meaning as in Hawkeye terms, as he tells Col. Wortman, "his pearl handled pistols are up for grabs, now!"
