Bruce Kirby (born April 24, 1928, in New York City, NY) appeared as Sergeant Kimble in the Season 4 episode of the CBS-TV series M*A*S*H titled "Hey, Doc". Bruce is best known for his role in the NBC-TV Columbo series, and has also appeared in a number of motion pictures including CrashStand By MeThrow Momma From the Train and The Muppet Movie. Bruce is the father of late actor/director Bruno Kirby, who appeared as Private Lorenzo Boone in the very first M*A*S*H episode "Pilot".

Career[]

In 1981-1982, Bruce appeared as San Francisco police officer Schmidt in the short lived 9-episode CBS-TV crime/drama series Shannon starring Kevin Dobson in the title role.

Kirby's television roles ranged from Goodyear Television Playhouse in the 1950s to I Dream of Jeannie, The Nurses, The Defenders, Car 54, Where Are You?, and The Patty Duke Show in the 1960s, to Bonanza, Ironside, Barney Miller, Hogan's Heroes, The Rockford Files, the CBS-TV series Kojak, as well as the Kojak TV film The Marcus-Nelson Murders, and Alice in the 1970s.

In the 1980s Bruce continued to find steady television work, appearing in guest roles on the series Remington Steele, Night Court, Matlock, Hill Street Blues, Lou Grant and Punky Brewster in the 1980s. In the 1990s he appeared in such shows as The Golden Girls, L.A. Law, In the Heat of the Night, Murphy Brown, Murder, She Wrote, Chicago Hope, The Sopranos, The Agency and The West Wing in the 1990s. Bruce has not acted in Hollywood since 2009, when he appeared in the short film Bottom Feeders.
