Career[]
A revered character actor, Ned also played the gigantic Farmer Grultrud in the Creature Shop production Gulliver's Travels.
The portly, genial-looking Beatty made his film debut in Deliverence, and received an Academy Award nomination for his portrayal of Arthur Jensen in Network (1976). Other notable roles include Lex Luthor's henchman Otis in the first two Superman films, Detective Bolander in the series Homicide: Life on the Street, and a recurring guest role on Roseanne as Ed Conner, Dan's father, as well as guest spots on, Gunsmoke, and Murder, She Wrote. He also voiced Lots-o'-Huggin' Bear in the 2010 Disney/Pixar film Toy Story 3.
