About Corporal MulliganEdit
Corporal Mulligan is probably a corpsman attached to the 4077th MASH as can be deduced from the Medical Corps insignia on his lapel. In the early part of the episode, he seeks out Radar in the mess tent and asks him for a favor. He is being rotated back to the United States as he has served his tour in Korea and would like Radar to help look after "something very precious and very beautiful for him". At first Radar thinks it is a bird or pet but he is horrified to learn that it is a girl--Mai Ping. But Mulligan reassures him--he just wants Radar to be her friend.
Mulligan introduces Radar to Mai Ping at Rosie's Bar and then takes off. Mai Ping invites Radar to her hut and he is still more shocked to learn that she has a baby--"Lee Chin Mulligan".
Radar begins to like his new role which he describes as "a sort of foster uncle" to the family. However, a few days later, as Radar is busy playing with the baby in Mai Ping's hut, Mulligan steps through the door again. He tells Mai Ping that he was almost on the plane when he realized he couldn't leave Mai Ping and the baby. So he came back and now he wants to take her and the child with him to Bitter Creek.
