Corporal Benny Bryant is an enlisted man of the U.S. Army who makes a one-time appearance in the Season 6 episode "Tea and Empathy". The part of Corporal Bryant is played by Sal Viscuso who is one of the two voices behind the P.A. announcements in the M*A*S*H TV series.

About Corporal Bryant[]

Bryant is probably a corpsman attached to the 4077th MASH as can be deduced from the Medical Corps insignia on his lapel. He only appears in one scene where he is making a confession to Father Mulcahy.

He tells the chaplain that he is going home soon and there is something he needs to get off his chest. During the time he was in the unit, he had been involved in drinking, fighting, fraternizing and worst of all, he had become involved with some other G.I.s and Koreans in the black market. There was a big market for medical supplies such as penicillin, sulfa and morphine. He was paid to steal the supplies and stash them under a temple bell at a burnt-out village school. This was a lucrative business which fetched him almost a thousand dollars a month (remembering that Hawkeye's pay according to "Dear Dad...Three" is only $413.50 a month).

Mulcahy tells Bryant that he knows several good charities for Bryant to give the money to but Bryant says that he has already sent the money home and his wife has used it to make a down payment for a house. Mulcahy tells him that if he wants forgiveness, he will have to right the wrong. Bryant replies that he wants to but he will be shipping out the next day and he will do that when he gets home.

Although Bryant never manages to right his wrong in Korea, Mulcahy was later able to use the information Bryant provided to retrieve a supply of much needed penicillin for the hospital.
